Matt Cumani trying to win hometown Ballarat Cup

Trainer Matt Cumani will be hoping to win his hometown Ballarat Cup this Saturday with a horse who has not won in two years.

Matt Cumani has targeted the rich $500,000 Ballarat Cup with One More Try which will be a big ask for the trainer seeings the mare hasn’t won a race since November 2018 with her slow starts often costing her from being a winning chance.

One More Try has been in good form this preparation without winning and the Ballarat Cup should present one of her easiest assignments although the increased prizemoney for the race could see a strong field.

’If only she could break well and find a midfield position, she’d be near unbeatable at this level but unfortunately she keeps giving away her starts,’’ Cumani told Racing.com.

β€˜β€™But she’s got a huge amount of ability. It’s just being slow into stride means she’s giving herself so much more work to do.’’

Ballarat Cup nominations come out on Monday with the Magic Millions Clockwise Classic another feature on the card with the winner securing a start in the 2021 Magic Millions Classic.
