Maher unconcerned over Pride Of Jenni’s performance

Pinstriped claimed victory in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes at Caulfield, narrowly defeating Mr Brightside in the final strides. Race favourite Mr Brightside, at $2.50 with bookies, finished ahead of Pride Of Jenni by five lengths but was caught by Pinstriped late. Pride Of Jenni ended in fifth place, 5.6 lengths behind the winner.

Trainer Ciaron Maher remained unconcerned about Pride Of Jenni’s performance, noting her usual struggle first-up over 1400 meters. “She felt like a 2000-metre horse,” Maher said, adding that she pulled up fine with no abnormalities reported.

Bookmakers were quick to push out Pride Of Jenni’s odds for the 2024 Cox Plate where she sat as favourite prior to the race. Betting companies now have her at $10 in markets.

Ben Hayes, trainer of Mr Brightside, was satisfied with his runner’s return, stating, “He was there to win, and Craig (Williams) rode him beautifully.” Hayes expressed confidence in Mr Brightside’s potential for improvement in upcoming races.

Maher enjoyed a successful day despite Pride Of Jenni’s defeat, with four winners, including Another Wil in the final event.
