Maher strengthens Caulfield Cup team with purchase from King Charles III

Ciaron Maher’s quest for a third Caulfield Cup has received a significant boost after securing the purchase of promising European stayer Point Of Law from King Charles III.

The King, who already has a relationship with Maher through Australian galloper Gilded Water, has agreed to sell the progressive stayer to continue his career in Australia.

A homebred for His Majesty, Point Of Law made an immediate impression after finishing second on debut at Yarmouth in April before breaking his maiden over 2000 metres at Newbury.

The colt then finished fourth in the Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot before producing a career-best performance to win the £200,000 Bahrain Trophy over 2600 metres at Newmarket on July 9.

Maher and his mother Eileen were guests of King Charles at Royal Ascot earlier this year and were also on course to watch Point Of Law’s impressive Bahrain Trophy victory.

The acquisition adds another highly credentialled European stayer to Maher’s powerful stable as he targets Australia’s premier staying races, including the 2026 Caulfield Cup this spring.
