Epsom favourite Winx to carry 53kg

Winx remains favourite to give trainer Chris Waller a third successive Epsom Handicap following the release of weights for the Group One mile.

The mare, who is at $4.50 in the TAB’s market on the $1 million race on October 3, will carry 53 kilograms, five below her stablemate and topweight Boban, the 2013 winner.

The Waller-trained Kermadec and Royal Descent are at $8 alongside Pornichet from the Gai Waterhouse stable with the three to contest Saturday’s weight-for-age George Main Stakes.

Kermadec and Pornichet both have 56kg in the Epsom with Royal Descent on 55.5kg, the same weight she carried when a nose second to He’s Your Man last year.

Another Waller entry, Catkins, has 53.5kg and is at $11 with Boban in a group on $15.

Godolphin’s Contributer is the second topweight with 57.5kg with his fellow imported Australian Group One winning stablemate Hartnell given 56.5kg.

The Lee and Anthony Freedman-trained Our Ivanhowe, a dual Group One winner in Germany, heads the weights for the Metropolitan (2400m) with 58kg, half a kilo more than Hartnell.

Last year’s winner Opinion has 54kg.

Another former European, Magic Hurricane from the Godolphin stable, is the $8 equal favourite for the Metropolitan alongside the Waller-trained Silverball.

Magic Hurricane is on the 52kg limit with Silverball on 53kg.
