TAB has attempted to uncover what makes Winx so great with a video focusing on her incredible physiology.
The video has identified several attributes that have made the superstar mare beyond comparison.
Points of Interest:
- Winx’s stride in full flight is on average 6.53 metres, which is a lot smaller than Black Caviar’s 8.50 metres.
- To compensate for that small stride, Winx takes around 85 strides per 30 seconds, whilst her group one rivals take only 70.
- The standard top class galloper struggles to maintain 12 footfalls every five seconds, while Winx continues at a whopping 14 footfalls every five seconds, even in the closing stages of a race, explaining how she reels off sprinters sectionals in middle distance events.
- Winx’s lungs distribute 10,000 litres of air per race and her heart beats 140 times per minute, distributing 30 litres of blood to her muscles, which are comprised of higher density, slow twitch fibres which use oxygen more efficiently to aid endurance, and allow her to sustain her top speed for a longer period than her rivals.
“It’s a lethal mix, well, for her rivals anyway – Winx is a perfectly built, impeccably balanced, equine athlete,” TAB ambassador Emma Freedman said.
“Ironically, Chris Waller and Hugh Bowman have a more simplistic view of what sets the legend apart from everyone else, they say her will to win and determination are her greatest attributes.”
Winx is $1.20 with the TAB to win her fourth straight Cox Plate on Saturday.
