Caulfield Cup 2016 plunge on German import

German import Articus has been heavily backed to win Saturday’s Caulfield Cup.

From the time Articus hit Australian shores Sportsbet has been swamped with support.

The online bookmaker posted Articus at $51 in early betting – he is now into $9.00.

The five-year-old is trained by Andreas Wohler, who won the 2014 Melbourne Cup with Protectionist.

The Ciaron Maher trained Jameka heads betting at $3.40, ahead of both Real Love and Scottish on $8.00 and Exospheric next in the market at $9.00.

“Jameka has received the most backing, but the Caulfield Cup was always her mission. Since Articus touched down and was confirmed as a starter there has been a groundswell of support and he’s now the second best supported runner,’’ said sportsbet.com.au’s Will Byrne.
