Race 1. (12:15) Lamaro's Hotel Plate 1400m
5 Bacash (Bet Now: $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since racing over 1400m at Sandown. He attempted to lead throughout and he gave a strong kick from the front but couldn’t quite see it through, nabbed late by Navy Pilot. Front end control, he’s dangerous.
1 Matahga (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Phillip Stokes trained three year old that resumes. He hasn’t raced since Juen 28 when a sharp winner at Morphettville Parks in the Oaklands, giving them a start and a beating. Fresh at 1400m signals intent, maybe with eyes on races like the Carbine Club/Sandown Guineas, so keen to see how he goes.
3 Icarian Dream (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes through the Scarborough from Manikato Night at The Valley. She got back in the run and while she was never threatening, she didn’t really get a chance to build the revs so forgive and forget the run. Not sure she wins, but is a must for exotics.
Race 2. (12:50) Sportsbet Classic 2000m
I think the market is completely dismissing one here. I speak of 8 McWoody (Bet Now: $SP.00). I can only assume they are dismissing him because it was a debut Wodonga win, low margin…but watch the replay. It was incredible he got there because he looks a big bugger that didn’t handle the track at all but once clear, he went like a rocket. Tick over jumpout last week, he ran down a Stakes class mare, She’s A Hustler, and those high up in betting…gee I can find holes.
It was hard not to miss the run of 7 Arabian Prince (Bet Now:Â $SP.00) in the Super Impose. He was first up, got a fair way back out of his ground, but loved the way he closed his race off in an eye catching return behind Options. Fitter and up in trip, he only runs well.
6 Amazake (Bet Now:Â $SP.00) is still a maiden but has talent. He ran over 1500m at Bendigo last time when off speed and kept chasing without threatening in what was a definite pass mark. Should appreciate a rise to 2000m and is in the right camp.
Race 3. (13:25) Ethereal Stakes 2000m
1 Spicy Lu (Bet Now:Â $SP.00) can bounce back. Thought she was good in defeat two back in the Jim Moloney before going to the Edward Manifold when wide no cover and tired to finish down the track. 2000m should be fine and hopefully can get a much better run in transit.
6 Just Kick (Bet Now: $SP.00) has to be a forgive from the Edward Manifold. She got back to near last in what turned out to be a barrier trial and she just couldn’t get involved behind Getta Good Feeling. Think the rise in trip is fine and she can settle much closer in the run.
12 Future Frankie (Bet Now:Â $SP.00) commands respect at odds after debuting over the mile last Friday at Cranbourne where she was one of the eye catchers of the meeting, closing with real purpose late in the piece. Love the rise to 2000m for her and she should be strong at the end.
Race 4. (14:00) Gothic Stakes 1200m
2 Tentyris (Bet Now: $SP.00) for me. Just think he needed the run when resuming in the Danehill but he did stick on really well in defeat I thought behind McGaw. More upside with him you’d imagine and with eyes towards the Coolmore, he should be cherry ripe.
8 Sheeza Alibi (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one of the interesting runners. Former QLD filly that now finds herself with Moody/Coleman. She did some nice things as a juvenile up North, highlighted by an impressive in the 2YO Classic at Townsville. She’ll be strong late, watch betting.
It’s hard to ignore what 6 Ripley (Bet Now: $SP.00) did first up over 1200m at Rosehill when first up. Yes, he had the suck run in transit, but he made a mess of them and was impressive in the run to the line. I think he can measure up.
Race 5. (14:35) Alinghi Stakes 1100m
4 Hi Dubai (Bet Now:Â $SP.00) looks suited here for Ciaron Maher. Been up a little while but is holding her form very well after racing last time in the Toy Show when near the speed and battled away really well in defeat behind Autumn Glow. Good racing style, she can threaten.
1 Austmarr (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes here with fresh legs for Team Freedman, having not raced since Sep 20 over 1200m here when leading and gave a strong kick but couldn’t quite see it through behind Miraval Rose. Fresh legs, back in trip, tick over jumpout was encouraging, leading contender.
9 Stokke (Bet Now:Â $SP.00) is flying for Patrick Ryan Jnr and has earned a crack at Stakes grade after two wins over the short course, the latest being an impressive display over 1000m at The Valley. Good test here, but think she can measure up.
Race 6. (15:10) Herald Sun Sprint 1000m
2 Nadal (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a class animal for Ciaron Maher that resumes. He hasn’t raced since The Supernova on Pakenham Cup Day where not much went right for him when midfield behind Here To Shock. Trialled up super and will launch late, especially given he’s looking like he’s being trained as a sprinter.
1 Rey Magnerio (Bet Now: $SP.00) was a close up second in this race when resuming last year and I think he can go one better. He trialled last Monday at Cranbourne, several weeks since his first jumpout, and gee he went like a rocket I thought, closing with real purpose under a hold. He’s ready to rock and roll I say.
4 Sghirripa (Bet Now:Â $SP.00) is capable with his best. He resumes for Team Oxlade, having not raced since May 10 when down the track in The Goodwood behind Reserve Bank. Thought he looked sharp in a jumpout win at Strathalbyn and his best is more than good enough to measure up here.
Race 7. (15:45) Thousand Guineas 1600m
1 Apocalyptic (Bet Now: $SP.00) is clearly hard to beat. She has been the dominant filly in Sydney, winning three legs of the Princess Series, though I will say her three wins have come in races where the tempo hasn’t been crash hot. Good test here, but in terms of runs on the board, she is clearly top seed.
10 Karinska (Bet Now: $SP.00) is bursting to win a good race I feel for Chris Waller and it could well be here. She has finished behind Apocalyptic in Sydney and while safely, she has been good in defeat given she doesn’t seem to have been suited by the slow tempos. More genuine tempo here, hungry Nash on, I think she’ll run a beauty.
2 Ferivia (Bet Now:Â $SP.00) is a beauty for Phillip Stokes. Not sure how she won the Prelude at Sandown given she looked beaten 64 times in the straight but she found, kicked and dug in to win right on the peg in an absolute blanket finish. Very genuine filly, she commands respect.
Race 8. (16:30) Moonga Stakes 1400m
I hope they can run on because I’m keen to be with 9 Payline (Bet Now: $SP.00). I think he is absolutely flying for a stable that is absolutely humming. He has just found them too sharp at 1000m/1200m this time in, the latest being the Gilgai, but has been excellent each time he has stepped out. Crying out for further, which he gets here…I think he’ll run a beauty.
1 Here To Shock (Bet Now:Â $SP.00) should appreciate a drop in grade/depth after racing in the Sir Rupert Clarke when back off speed and failed to come on behind Sepals. I think with a more positive ride, his best is clearly good enough to take this out.
8 Steparty (Bet Now:Â $SP.00) is suited up to 1400m for Paul Preusker. He comes through the Gilgai from two weeks back behind War Machine. He just found them a bit sharp and was never really a factor but he stayed on and was a definite pass mark in defeat. Great track/distance record, he can run a much improved race.
Race 9. (17:15) Caulfield Cup 2400m
11 Golden Snap (Bet Now:Â $SP.00) is the way I am going. She is a high class mare from Japan who excels at 2400m+ and will eat up the trip. She last raced on Sep 7 over 2600m at Sapporo when a game second in a strong Handicap. Has runs on the board over there and you always have to respect the Japanese when they come over in what looks a very weak Caulfield Cup.
4 Meydaan (Bet Now: $SP.00) knows what it takes re a good horse coming down under given they did bring Without A Fight a few years ago before he was sent to Team Freedman. Meydaan does seem chips in for this race. He was quite good last start at Kempton Park in the September Stakes, finding the line strongly from off speed when third. He’ll run a beauty.
2 Presage Nocturne (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a class stayer from France that comes here off the back of a close up third in the Kergolay, which probably doesn’t have the weight of importance it once did, but it is still a quality race. Reckon he may have eyes on the first Tuesday in November vs this race, but he’ll be strong late and has class.
Race 10. (17:50) Tristarc Stakes 1400m
5 Abounding (Bet Now: $SP.00) is bursting to win for Rob Heathcoate. Can easily make a case to say she wins the Stocks if she got clear earlier but just couldn’t quite get clear at the right time when second to Splash Back. Back to 1400m should be fine and if she gets room to move, she’s the one.
2 Splash Back (Bet Now:Â $SP.00) had the race put on a platter for her in the Stocks, rightfully took advantage and was impressive in giving them a start and a beating. Reckon she is a big track horse, so not sure Caulfield will suit, especially with the tempo likely not being as hot, but she does command respect given she is a last start Stakes winner.
7 Bossy Nic (Bet Now:Â $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since contesting the Golden Pendant at Rosehill when back in the run and did make up decent headway late without threatening. Maps to do no work in the run and be effective late at odds.
