For the only Australasian-trained runner at the International meeting in Hong Kong, the day proved less than spectacular.
Jimmy Choux, the winner of four Group One races in his native New Zealand and one in Australia, finished a disappointing ninth in the International Mile (1600m) after having a perfect run.
Trainer John Bary said Jimmy Choux raced as though he needed a rest, but he refused to be disappointed with him.
“The result was a measure of the class of the horses he met today,” Bary said.
“He was given a good ride and he had his chance, but wasn’t up to it on the day.”
The Mile at least went to a New Zealand-bred runner – Able One, a veteran son of Cape Cross who has now won a highly respectable $HK37 million.
A strong Australian connection could also be attached to the winner who is trained by John Moore.
Apart from French-trained Melbourne winner Dunaden’s win in the Vase, International day belonged to Hong Kong.
As well as Able One’s Mile victory, the locals claimed the Sprint with Lucky Ninety Nine and the Cup with California Memory.
