Star Of Michelin lives up to family name

Star Of Michelin continued a family tradition when he lived up to his breeding to win at Eagle Farm.

Star Of Michelin had won his previous start at Eagle Farm in a midweek race when $41 but there were no such big odds on Saturday with the gelding starting at $7.

He proved far too strong in the final 200m beating Violet ($6.50) by two lengths with a neck to Mishani Romance ($4.40).

Star Of Michelin was bred by his owner Ross Cutts and his family who have had a lot of success with the gelding’s relatives over a long period.

The Cutts have won more than 70 races with the family with the best the multiple Group One winner and later sire Show A Heart.

Star Of Michelin is by Jet Spur out of the mare Conca Bella who is a full-sister to Cutts’s Group One Oakleigh Plate winner Woorim.

Trainer Stuart Kendrick said Star Of Michelin was a big galloper who had taken time to mature.

β€œHe has been working well with older horses and beating them. He is a big raw-boned horse and the older he gets the better he gets,” Kendrick said.

β€œRoss and his family have had a lot of success with progeny from this bloodlines and Star of Michelin will carry it on.

β€œI am not sure exactly where he will go but we will look for another race at Eagle Farm as he goes a lot better here on the big track.”
