Littlefield takes aim at the VOBIS Gold Distaff

Regal Vow will always hold a special place in the mind of Charlotte Littlefield having supplied the Pakenham-based conditioner with her breakthrough ‘Black Type’ victory.

The Listed Lord Stakes (1600m) at Caulfield Heath on Boxing Day last year was Littlefield’s biggest career win until that was surpassed by the victory of She’s Bulletproof in the Group 3 Geoffrey Bellmaine Stakes at Sandown the following month.

Regal Vow has not been seen since the Lord Stakes win but is down to run in the VOBIS Gold Distaff (1400m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

Littlefield took advantage of giving the mare a gallop at Caulfield on Tuesday morning having had just the one jump-out, last Tuesday, at Pakenham in preparation for her return.

“She’s freshened up well since the win,” Littlefield said.

“We brought her here this morning because she’s had only the one jump-out and I just wanted to make her do a little bit extra work, rather than staying at home where she doesn’t have a blow or put much effort in.

“It was a really good opportunity to give her a good clean up before she heads out on Saturday.”

Regal Vow has raced at Caulfield on three occasions, registering a win and a second, along with the victory on the Caulfield Heath track.

The mare’s only unplaced run at Caulfield came on a heavy track in the Group 3 Summoned Stakes at her start prior to victory in the Lord Stakes.

“She goes well here, and we’ve got Craig Williams on board again which is great,” Littlefield said.

“He couldn’t be here this morning because he was jumping out She’s Bulletproof at Pakenham, so the track riders had to do the work this morning, myself included.

“There was plenty of give in the track this morning and if it’s not too firm on Saturday, I think she will run pretty well.

“She’s had that freshen up between runs and she’s normally pretty dynamic first-up.”

Littlefield said She’s Bulletproof was having a soft jump-out at Pakenham in preparation for the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on Saturday week.

After winning the Geoffrey Bellmaine, She’s Bulletproof went on run second to Jimmysstar in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield on February 22.

“She was having a soft hit-out this morning, more so just a grass gallop, to stretch those legs, and she’ll be more than likely heading to the William Reid at this stage,” Littlefield said.
