Ladbrokes has introduced the Ladbrokes Owners Incentive Scheme, a bonus program that has the potential to inject over $10 million in additional prizemoney into Australian thoroughbred racing.

Starting in Tasmania on June 1, the scheme offers a $2000 bonus to owners of horses participating in select races.

It is anticipated that the bonuses will eventually be extended nationwide, with racing bodies in other states expressing interest in adopting the program, potentially benefiting more than 5200 maiden races.

Ladbrokes Australia CEO Dean Shannon highlighted the aim of the scheme to reward owners who invest in horse ownership, particularly in grassroots racing.

β€œWe have seen dramatic increases in prizemoney at the big end of town, but the cost of racing is similar no matter how fast your horse is, so that is why our focus has been very much at a grassroots level,” Shannon explained.

He expressed excitement about implementing the program in Tasmania, acknowledging the state’s strong presence in the thoroughbred industry.

The initiative has received positive feedback from the racing community, with local Tasmanian trainer Gary White commending Ladbrokes for their support.

β€œLadbrokes has been sensational in its support for the racing industry,” White said.

He expressed his satisfaction with the additional prizemoney being made available for maiden wins and emphasized the positive impact such initiatives have on the industry.
