Former leading horse trainer Darren Weir is set to appear before the Victorian Racing Tribunal in March 2024.
He faces allegations from 2018 of using a jigger, an illegal device, on racehorses.
Weir, along with his former stable staff Jarrod McLean and Tyson Kermond, were scheduled for a preliminary hearing this week, but it was cancelled after the parties agreed on a March 18-22 hearing.
The trio must submit their defence evidence by December 22. Racing Victoria Stewards are required to present any counter-evidence by February 29.
These developments follow after Weir was slapped with 10 new charges in September, related to jigger use, based on evidence including CCTV footage presented in a previous court session.
Despite these charges, Weir has resumed his career in the racing industry.
After serving a four-year suspension for jigger possession and animal cruelty, he’s now working as a pre-trainer, a role he took up after his ban lapsed in February.
