Champion jockey Corey Brown retires

Two time Melbourne Cup winning jockey Corey Brown has called time on his illustrious riding career following a devastating fall in the 2019 Queensland Derby.

Corey Brown learnt his fait early this week when he met with his orthopaedic surgeon Dr Andrew Cree who told the Champion jockey he will never ride again.

Brown has been dealing with severe back pain since the fall but has always been optimistic of returning to race riding despite the prolonged period out of the saddle due to ongoing issues with his Work Cover approval.

β€œThere has been plenty of tears,’’ Brown told The Daily Telegraph.

β€œBut deep down, I’ve had a sense for a few months it was over, I just didn’t want to admit it.’’

Brown the winner of 2466 races including 49 G1’s will undergo the spinal surgery next week which he hopes will ease the pain.

Fortunately for racing however the star jockey won’t be lost with ongoing media commitments and the desire to mentor young jockeys set to see him remain within the industry.
