UK-based Star Sports has initiated its Australian growth strategy by acquiring the intellectual property of boutique bookmaker Vinbet.
This development comes less than 12 months after Star Sports launched its tailored online wagering platform for the Australian market, aiming to make deeper inroads amid increasing competition.
In an environment where industry experts believe the number of operators is nearing a saturation point, Star Sports is looking to strategic acquisitions as a pathway to expansion.
“We think there’ll be further consolidation at the smaller end of the market … within the smaller operators,” said Shane Ciurleo, Star Sports’ Australian general manager, in an interview with The Straight.
“An industry consolidation could be an avenue for expansion for us.”
