The Shorts 2025 – Field, Odds, Betting, Tips, and Horse Previews

The Everest picture will take further shape this Saturday, with The Shorts (1100m) at Randwick attracting a high class field.

Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2025 The Shorts.

2025 The Shorts Runner Preview:

1. Briasa: TJ Smith winner who has The Everest slot secured, but his trials indicate he’s here to make a statement. Has looked very sharp and drawn well, he’ll settle handy and be strong late. Leading contender.

2. Private Harry: Private Harry…just how good is he? 5/5 for Nathan Doyle, already in The Everest…just don’t know how good he is because he is unbeaten. He is a winner…but what has he beaten? On a fair track, I dare say Briasa wins The Galaxy and of course he went on to win the TJ Smith, so that form is very strong, he has a good racing style and looks very forward off his trial work. Market will be fascinating.

3. Jedibeel: Interrupted prep but the owner does have The Everest slot. I don’t think it guarantees this horse a start in the race so he’ll need to run a beauty here. He’s a good horse. But I don’t think he is up to these.

4. Joliestar: Joliestar is a class mare for Chris Waller that resumes, having not raced since the Kingsford Smith Cup when producing a brilliant finale from off speed to finish best. Good test here fresh at 1100m against the big boys and girls but her trials have been great and is a clear class runner.

5. Mazu: I was quite keen on him fresh in the Heath 1100m at Caulfield but he let me down bad and this race is much harder. Pass.

6. Ostraka: Got the right run in transit in the Concorde and found the line well to finish third. That was his chance IMO so he goes through to the keeper here.

7. Dragonstone: Wide no cover in the Concorde and felt the pinch late. Maps much better this time around but he’s not good enough to threaten.

8. Compelling Truth: Has eyes on The Kosciuszko and was very good at The Valley last start but he’s not sharp enough to beat these.

9. Marhoona: SCR

10. Generosity: What was The Concorde? Did the pattern flatter her, or was she that unlucky and should have fought the finish out? If it is the latter, I say she’s right in the mix as a knockout hope.

2025 The Shorts Speed Map

Looks to be really good speed here. You’d think Private Harry has the early pace to lead. But first up, eyes towards The Everest…will they burn the candle? Compelling Truth is hard fit and can kick up, holding a forward spot if need be. Ostraka and Mazu could press forward as well.
