It’s A Dundeel, the High Chaparral colt who is undefeated in his five starts, faces six competitors in is last hit-out before the VRC Derby in a fortnight’s time, a race where he currently is the dominate $2.00 favourite. He should be too goo for his six rivals here, four of which come out of the same race in Adelaide with less than a length separated them.

Mitchelton Wines Vase Form Guide
1. IT’S A DUNDEEL – J McDonald (5)
Kept he’s perfect record in order when defeating Proisir in the G1 Spring Champions Stakes at Randwick three weeks ago. As was the case in each of his previous starts, he showed a determination to win and was doing his best work late. He’s a horse that likes to build into his races and should begin to make his run down the side and be too strong for any challengers.
Odds: $1.25
2. VIKING STAR – C Lindop (7)
Adelaide visitor and half brother to smart stayers Tanby and Fawkner who has come across to make his Victorian debut after winning two of his last three starts. The most recent effort was a second (beaten a nose) in the Listed Hill Smith Stakes where he jumped to the 1800m of that race, from his previous start of 1300m. Should be better for that run and experience over ground and looks the logical danger – if any – to the favourite.
Odds: $12.00
3. IF I COULD – D Oliver (6)
The son of Iffraaj who is trained by Mark Kavanagh, also comes out of the Listed Hill Smith Stakes. He settled on the pace and stuck on fairly, beaten less than a length in finishing fifth. He too jumped to the 1800m off a 1400m start and like Viking Star will be better for that experience. Expect him to go forward.
Odds: $19.00
4. SUPER COOL – M Rodd (4)
Off the back of his good run behind Pronto Pronto in the Vintage Stakes two starts back, he was sent out as 11/8 favourite in a RST 82 at Caulfield on 1000 Guineas day, ,and closed well after getting back from his inside draw, to finish a long neck of the winner Ava’s Delight. Might be ridden a little more forward today and did give the impression last start that this trip will suit.
Odds: $6.50
5. BULLION EXPRESS – V Duric (2)
A son of Marwina who has the record of eight career starts, five of them in this preparation and one win. That win came three starts back in a Bendigo Maiden and he on his efforts of his three runs since, the latest of which he ran last in a Kilmore RST 62 event, it’s hard to see him worrying too many in this race.
Odds: $121.00
6. PRISONER OF WAR – C Schofield (1)
Yet another who comes to this race after contesting this Listed Hill Smith Stakes in Adelaide. That was the David Hayes trained galloper’s seventh start with his only win coming three starts back in a Werribee Maiden (1610m).
Odds: $67.00
7. NISOS – C Williams (3)
The last of the four runners in tonight’s race that comes from the Hill Smith Stakes race, this son Excellent Art finished third after racing from the tail of the field. This is a pattern his has demonstrated at each of his six starts today and whist he’s yet to win any of them, stepping out to the 2000m can only further help his chances.
Odds: $17.00
OVERVIEW
At $1.25 in early markets about It’s A Dundeel, it should really be more a question of how far can he win by. He has the record, the class and bar a case of unforeseen circumstances, he should win comfortably. As for the placings, there appears little between the rest all of whom get to this trip for the first time in their careers. Think Viking Star and Super Cool ($6.50) have given the appreciate that they’ll enjoy the task more than the others.
