2025 Kalgoorlie Cup Runner Preview:
1. Sentimental Hero: Class horse and will give the locals an almighty cheer. Spanked them in the Boulder Cup and seemingly has upside/improvement to come. Lands in front and he’ll look the winner for a long way. Just a tad too short.
2. Be Optimistic: Previous winner of the race but resumed in the Coolgardie and was plain. Off that return, I can’t entertain as a key threat.
3. Currimundi: Steps up in trip after racing over the mile at Belmont last start when off speed and just failed to come on behind a potential star, Cosmic Crusader. Not sure he is going well enough to take this out.
4. Starry Heights: Starry Heights on top and clearly I say. He was 1400m to 2100m when contesting the Boulder Cup and he tried his guts out but just couldn’t quite finish the job when second to Sentimental Hero. He has that run under the belt now and has good upside to come.
5. Alaskan: Stable won the Hannans and are looking to win the Cup with this guy. He is a stayer, trip will be no issue…but just lacks the class/quality.
6. Dancing Jack: Struggled in the Boulder Cup and there is a good chance the ambulance will beat him home.
7. I Love Your Smile: I Love Your Smile is flying for Luke Fernie and has earned a crack at a race like this after wins at Belmont in recent weeks, each time knuckling down with purpose to score. Good test here but confident she measures up.
8. It’s A Lance: It’s A Lance comes here after attempting to lead throughout in the Boulder Cup. He gave a strong kick from the front and tried hard but just felt the pinch late. Can press forward but doubt he is good enough.
9. Mystical Man: Was okay without threatening in the Boulder Cup. Reckon he is sneaky flying and would be hard to beat in something easier, but not here.
10. Royal Law: Royal Law ran a close up fourth to I Love Your Smile last Saturday at Belmont. He got a fair way out of his ground but really liked the way he closed his race off in defeat. Not sure he is good enough to win but can run top four.
11. Ryewood: Sneaky good run in the Boulder Cup behind the stablemate and does get good weight relief. He is one I can entertain as a knockout hope.

2025 Kalgoorlie Cup Speed Map
Sentimental Hero looks to get front end control, even though Royal Law should hold a forward spot as well. Alaskan likely lands box seat from the gate. I Love Your Smile potentially lands 1/1, depending on what intent there is via Currimundi.
