As is the case most of the year, it was a busy week at the trials and jumpouts across Australia as the Autumn Carnival is here, with some progressive types stepping out in readiness for their campaigns.
I’ve looked at the available trials and jumpouts for the week and have come up with a few to follow heading forward over the next few weeks.
RECENT RESULTS: Busy past seven days, so here’s a list of runners that were highlighted
Latenighttoughguy: Looked very sharp in the Cranbourne trial and won accordingly at Swan Hill
Personal: Forget she went around
Supernova: On track for the Sydney Cup
Great Leveller: How he got to nearly $10 I do not know. Impressive win
Prophet’s Thumb: Bigger track next time. Want to see her again
Black Prince Ruby: Looked a good horse at the jumpouts and won well at Avoca
Fussdinado: Sneaky good trial and he won impressively at Muswellbrook
Gentlemen’s Words: Ordinary steer cost it the win IMO
Heroess: Solid, but a touch disappointing all the same

Pakenham: Old Head R7 – Prefer him here than Sale. Looks a good type
Warrnambool: Ablaze R1 – Look a rising star of jumps racing and should win

Ascot: Just A Pinch R2 – Loved the debut win. Bumps into a really smart race I think
Doomben: Red Stina R5 – Tight track only thing stopping me from charging in
Morphettville Parks: Empire State R5 – Hard to beat wherever it goes
Rosehill: Amangiri R8 – Can she be effective on dry ground? If it was wet ground, bet of the year
Monday March 30
Wagga: Divi R9 – Former Tassie galloper that went like a jet in a Goulburn trial
NEW SOUTH WALES
Monday March 23 (Goulburn): Couple of trials after the race meeting on Monday. Was really taken by the trial of Divi in Heat 2. On speed throughout under Blake McDougall was this former Scott Brunton galloper from Tassie and he moved sweetly in the 800m contest to win comfortably, in good time, with plenty in hand. Down to debut on Monday at Wagga and is hard to beat off this trial.
VICTORIA
Monday March 23 (Cranbourne): You can immediately put On The Program into the blackbook. Unraced Sacred Falls colt for the Busuttin/Young stable that contested Heat 1 this morning. Gee he looked to be full of running but wasn’t extended at any stage and I think he would have spanked them if allowed. Potentially a very good engine under the hood based on this jumpout performance.
QUEENSLAND
Tuesday March 24 (Sunshine Coast): A heavy track was in store for participants at this set of trials. Two caught my eye, starting in Heat 2 with the unraced Vandyke runner Rory’s Reward, who led throughout and went on to win by over four lengths. Not sure he was 100% happy in the going but overall, looked pretty good and won well without being fully extended. One that was pushed out was Gideons, who won Heat 9 and considering the track was getting worse as the morning progressed, the time was very good. Formerly with Desleigh Forster, he led and spanked them. Back him with confidence if he finds a wet track.
SOUTH AUSTRALIA
Thursday March 26 (Strathalbyn): Decent set of trials this morning at Strathalbyn, starting in Heat 1 with the two year old Quiet Discreet, who led all the way under Kayla Crowther. Looked to handle the turns very comfortably in front and when given a flick of rein, the response was there and she was far too good. Form around her debut reads well and she’s returned in good order of this trial is any guide. There were two I wanted to highlight from Heat 5. Magna Bella is now with Andrew Clarken and I liked her change up speed to win the trial when asked by Tourneur. Lovely turn of foot and was too good. She won, but the clear eye catcher was Appalachian. Wide throughout, I think she could have easily won the trial had Crowther sneezed on the gelding. Expecting him to go through his grades despite it being Carnival time.
