First Look – Mornington 17/12: Key Plays for Twilight Racing

Wednesday racing heads to Mornington with the running of a 7 race meeting twilight fixture. Plenty of the local trainers are deemed to be hard to stop at Mornington but one trainer or should I say trianers’ in particular with a strong profile is that of the Malua Racing trio of Leon and Troy Corstens and Will Larkin, in the past 3 years they’ve saddled up a total of 21 runners at the Peninsula course for 6 winners at a 28% winning strikerate and impressive 55.2% Return on Investment. They have two runners in with Imzada- Race 3 and Supergrace- Race 4.

Expecting the track to start a Good 4 and be upgraded during the meeting. Rail position of plus 4 metres the entire circuit should see leaders advantaged and no disadvantage to be against the rail.

Below are rhe horses we’ve identified as the key plays for the meeting.

Race 1- No. 3 Good Lordy Me

Hard fit now for recent racing and was game on speed at Pakenham when just beaten by Left Hook. That race rated well for this and should get favours on speed here with a vigorous J Maskiell in the saddle. Only needs to hold his form to be hard to hold out here.

Race 2- No.2 Natural Ruler

Ran well here three starts back when closing off well behind Giggenbach at 2000m and since then went poorly at Geelong on Cup day when relentless money late in betting to jump favourite, was freshened after that and ran much improved race at Cranbourne behind Black Peppermint when a mile back and making decent ground on a day that was tough to make ground. Now gets J Mott on and maps to be much closer here, time for him to deliver on that promise. Looks an ideal set up for him to get into the winners circle.

Race 5- No.1 Let’sfacethemusic

Racing in good form this prep with a good effort fresh at Bendigo in a good form race on Cup day and then wasn’t far away at Cranbourne in much harder race latest when only beaten 2.8 lengths by Hearcomesthestar who has backed up the form with a strong run in Saturday grade since. This race has much less depth than those and with the claim for Olivia East he’s in very well with just 57kgs. Should park outside the leader White Bear here and prove too good for these, surprised he’s not much shorter given the lack of depth to the race.
