Saturday racing in Melbourne continues at Caulfield this weekend with another handy nine race card. The weather is overcast, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race One (12:10) : Ern Jensen Funerals Plate 1600m:
Back Me: 5 Fife (Best Odds: $11.00) was smashed in betting last time out at Ballarat and loomed to win the race but just couldn’t quite go on with it when running third to Fellspur, beaten 1.5L. Back to her own age now, third up, home track and draws a soft gate.
Big Danger: 1 Lahqa (Best Odds: $3.50) ran over 1500m at Sandown last time out and showed great fight in getting the job done narrowly but impressively. She has been up for some time, but continues to race very well and the form around her is excellent, including a close up fourth to Derby placegetter Tally.
Roughie: 3 Miss Cooper (Best Odds: $21.00) resumed at Sandown three weeks back and was a bit disappointing I thought when running last to Lahqa, beaten over 12 lengths. Stewards report found nothing, so that run doesn’t fill you with much confidence, and her second up record is awful, but she maps well and Lane rides.

Race Two (12:45) : Next Payments Handicap (90) 2000m:
Back Me: 7 Zahspeed (Best Odds: $3.40) can continue his winning run here. He was given a lovely on speed steer from Bossy to get the job done last time out at Sandown and was dominant on the line. Looks the only leader here and should take some beating.
Big Danger: 8 Tarquin (Best Odds: $3.40) is on trial for a Derby prep. He was pretty good I thought last time out in the Gold Reef (1600m) behind Bengal Cat given he peeled out 900m and had make a sustained run. If he can get a drag into the race here, he will take some beating.
Roughie: 10 Sabkhat (Best Odds: $8.50) stuck on well first up at Rosehill behind Federal before racing in the Gold Mile (1600m) here and sticking on well behind Red Bomber. He should be close to peak fitness now and maps very well.

Race Three (13:20) : Changing Places Real Estate Handicap (78) 1100m:
Back Me: 13 Magnagem (Best Odds: $4.60) on top for me with no confidence in a poor race. She is on the back up from racing here last Saturday where she looked home but was bloused right on the peg by Bella Capri. Looks so well placed at the weights, draws well, in form…ticks the boxes for me.
Big Danger: 11 Sang Choi Bao (Best Odds: $8.50) is a real nutcase upstairs but he is a good on his day. He resumes here for Jason Warren off the back of a handy trial effort at Cranbourne and though he will get back to near last, if the speed is on and he gets a clear run, he will ambush.
Roughie: 14 Baby Don’t Cry (Best Odds: $15.00) resumes here for the Morgan/Widdison yard after some really good efforts last time in, and on most occasions she didn’t have a great deal of luck. Comes here with no trials, but she does have a solid first up record and Linda Meech rides the stables horses well.

Race Four (13:55) : No Fuss Event Hire Handicap 1100m:
Back Me: 4 She’s Miss Devine (Best Odds: $2.50) looks the way to go here. There was plenty to like about her win at Sandown last time out where held off stablemate French Emotion, who ran a beauty in a rich race here a couple of weeks back so the form reads well and there is just enormous upside.
Big Danger: 9 Pretty Possum (Best Odds: $7.50) drops in class after contesting the Manihi Classic (1100m) at Morphettville three weeks back where she attempted to lead all the way but was nabbed in the last few strides by Daytona Grey. Looks the leader here and she will give a stack of cheek.
Roughie: 2 Nadeem Lass (Best Odds: $11.00) sat wide no cover in the Gold Bracelet (1400m) which really isn’t her go yet she wasn’t beaten far by Written. She is a hard horse to trust, but she drops in class and won’t mind a track with give in it. Not sure she can win, but she is a must for exotics.

Race Five (14:35) : Thoroughbred Club Cup 1200m:
Back Me: 4 Dissolute (Best Odds: $3.60) resumed in the VOBIS Gold Ingot (1200m) here and closed off very strongly late when running second to Valliano, beaten just under a half length. He will be much better off here, stable is having a really good run with their youngsters and he will be strong late.
Big Danger: 3 Curvature (Best Odds: $5.50) is a handy juvenile that resumes for Team Freedman. He raced twice in the Summer, both resulting in seconds, starting off with Seaburge and then Valliano. Jump outs have been impressive, and he has been nominated a few times, so he should be ready to go.
Roughie: 1 Highland Beat (Best Odds: $8.00) is the hard fit youngster that comes here off the back of an impressive win last Wednesday at Sandown over 1200m, and he was strong through the line, so the 1200m here will be no issue and the race fitness is a definite advantage.

Race Six (15:15) : Australian Seating Systems Handicap 1200m:
Back Me: 5 Amadeus (Best Odds: $3.60) was backed at odds to win the Bendigo Guineas last time out and ran well when second to a real good one in Silent Sedition, beaten 1.5L. Back to 1200m looks ideal and is in the right stable, which is in form after recent success during the Sydney Carnival and Supido on Monday at Flemington.
Big Danger: 1 Bassett (Best Odds: $5.50) is the watch horse. This classy three year old hasn’t raced since finishing down the track behind Japonisme in the Arrowfield Sprint during the Championships. He is the best horse in the race by a mile and just only needs luck from the gate to be a threat.
Roughie: 10 Murphy’s Reward (Best Odds: $12.00) resumes here for the Hayes/Dabernig yard after a strong debut win at Benalla in the Summer. Hasn’t looked too bad at the jump outs and though the form out of that maiden hasn’t stood up, he looks to have enormous upside.

Race Seven (15:55) : Sky High Mt Dandenong Handicap 1800m:
Back me: 15 Coller Bay (Best Odds: $67.00) is a handy gelding for Mick Price who was very impressive in breaking his maiden status on Terang Cup Day, and was very strong through the line. Back on his home track now, Newitt rides and he will eat up the 1800m here.
Big Danger: 2 Unbreakable (Best Odds: $2.70) comes here off the back of a closing second to impressive winner Bengal Cat in the Gold Reef (1600m) here. Form around is pretty solid, 1800m will be no issue and Williams rides.
Roughie: 4 Red Alto (Best Odds: $17.00) loomed to win last time out at Sandown but just couldn’t quite finish it off near the inside when third to Loyalty Man. Meets the winner 3kg off here yet is three times the odds of that runner here…can’t work that out.

Race Eight (16:30) : Charter Keck Cramer Plate 1400m:
Back Me: 1 Charmed Harmony (Best Odds: $3.40) attempted to lead all the way at this track/distance in the Victoria Handicap last time out and looked home but was nabbed in the last stride by Group l performer Black Heart Bart. Much easier here, and if he can control the race again from the front, he will take a power of beating.
Big Danger: 6 Sistine Demon (Best Odds: $7.00) resumed in the Anniversary Vase (1400m) here and looked the winner but was nabbed right on the peg by in form mare Precious Gem. This horse draws to ghost Charmed Harmony and there is a 3.5kg weight difference from that horse and draws better.
Roughie: 11 Lord Durante (Best Odds: $19.00) was very good at this track/distance last time out in the Anniversary Vase behind Precious Gem given he was wide no cover for the trip. Would prefer him up in trip rather than remaining at 1400m, but that run was too good to dismiss.

Race Nine (17:05) : L U Simon Builders Handicap (84) 1600m:
Back Me: 4 Mihany (Best Odds: $5.50) was given a 12/10 steer from Matty Neilson to win last start at Morphettville, controlling the race from the front and giving plenty when asked and challenged. He can take a sit, and I think with the likely hot speed here, that will have to be the option, but whatever the case, he is the one to beat.
Big Danger: 1 Entre Nous (Best Odds: $5.00) looked terribly weighted last time out in the Gold Reef (1600m) here but he defied that and almost got the win but had to settle for a close up second to proven Stakes winner Red Bomber. Big drop in class here, the claim helps and only has overcome the tricky gate to be a leading contender.
Roughie: 2 Hollywood Bound (Best Odds: $18.00) is back in Melbourne after a two run stint here, which didn’t really prove to be successful at all. He was due to run last week at Rosehill but was scratched. He ran down the track behind High Midnight in a strong form race prior and on his day this horse can really fire and this is a very winnable race.
