24/4/2021 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Doomben, Mick Dittman Plate day

The Brisbane Carnival warms up some more this Saturday at Doomben with a couple of blacktype events on the nine race program. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out 4.5 metres for the entire circuit.

Back Me

Concede 5 Warrior Hero (Bet Now: $3.90) will need luck from the gate, but I think he’s the most progressive of this bunch. Debuted a few weeks ago on the Kenso track and I loved the way he found the line and kept finding under pressure when a close up second to Kalino, beaten a lip. Just needs luck from the draw and he’ll take beating.

Danger

1 Subterranean (Bet Now: $4.20) is a Matty Dunn trained colt that should prove hard to beat back to this level. He resumed in the Kindergarten two weeks ago where he paraded like he would need the run and though the race shape didn’t help, he did run like he needed the hitout behind Paulele. Better suited at this level and is one of the hardest to beat.

Long Shot

13 Bulloo (Bet Now: $8.00) has a decent engine under the hood I feel. Debuted just under two weeks ago over 1000m at the Sunny Coast where she was very impressive from the back, surging hard late to get the job done despite being unwanted in betting. Off that, 1200m is no issue and I think is a live chance.

Race 2. (12:07) Caleb Elder (bm90) 2200m

Back Me

An improving track and a likely firm deck will help the cause of 4 Sir Barnabus (Bet Now: $12.00) because he does have a good record and good form at 2000m+ on dry ground. Has found wet ground his past few but despite that, think he has raced well, the latest being two weeks ago when a solid third to Seat Of Power. Up in trip on better footing, he can win.

Danger

3 Seat Of Power (Bet Now: $4.20) is the one with progression and upside. Had his first look at 2000m here a fortnight ago and he was dominant, leading throughout to spank them, though I will say he did get somewhat of a picnic in front. Now has to step it up to 2200m but off last start, the extra ground should be no issue.

Long Shot

2 Romakash (Bet Now: $11.00) has been up a little while but continues to hold his form nicely. Didn’t think he was too bad in defeat behind Seat Of Power last time given the race shape and the fact he was a few weeks between runs. You’d like to think there is room for improvement, so he’s a threat for sure.

Race 3. (12:43) Stradbroke Season On Sale-bm75 1630m

Back Me

5 I Could Do Better (Bet Now: $9.00) has good form around him so leaning his way. Just under a month between runs since racing at this track/distance when a well supported runner, and for mine, I thought he had his chance to finish his race off better when sixth to Stuck With You. Prior form reads very well for a race like this.

Danger

4 Dreamtimer (Bet Now: $5.00) is suited back to 75 grade from a Class 6. Tough winner two back over 1300m before stepping up to a Class 6 mile. With the lightweight, he was heavily backed, but was quite disappointing I thought after leading, feeling the pinch late. Back to this level, he appeals.

Long Shot

Good little test here for 11 Chevychaser (Bet Now: $12.00) but he’s a progressive animal for Brian Smith. He didn’t beat much when winning at this track/distance last time out, but he was dominant in the run to the line on a bottomless track. He now has that winning feeling again. Could he go on with it?

Back Me

7 Tardis (Bet Now: $3.80) is an Ed O’Rourke trained mare that is close to another win I feel. Ran over this track/distance two weeks ago and worked to the line pretty well albeit was clearly no match for Fender, who is being talked up as a lightweight Stradbroke contender. I think that form reads well for a race like this.

Danger

3 What The Fuss (Bet Now: $12.00) is a quality animal for Kody Nestor that is bursting to win another race. Comes back to Brisbane after running in the Tamworth Cup Prelude last time, running on nicely from the back when third to Total Recall. Back in trip no issue and think this is a very winnable race.

Long Shot

Giving respect to 9 All To Do (Bet Now: $10.00). I thought he was very impressive when winning fresh over 1050m at Doomben. He handled the heavy track best, but that aside, he was still quite dominant in the run to the line, and did it without a public trial. You’d like to think there is room for improvement and stable is in form.

Back Me

I want this track to dry out for 4 Reloaded (Bet Now: $7.50) and the forecast does suggest that will eventuate. He’s an enigma, yes, but you look purely at his good track form, gee it reads well for a race like this and although he ran last, two back he was six lengths off Think It Over. That form just reads far superior to anything engaged.

Danger

7 Walking Flying (Bet Now: $3.20) is loving life with Team Edmonds it appears. 2/2 for the new camp, her latest win coming three weeks ago at Eagle Farm when finishing best out wide and nailing Kubrick near the peg. Saves her best for the mile and she finds a very winnable blacktype assignment.

Long Shot

3 The Candy Man (Bet Now: $5.50) returns home and I think there is enough in his form to suggest that he is just no good away from Queensland. He’s had a few cracks down South and just hasn’t measured up on a consistent basis. This looks his right level, he loves Doomben and has class, which will carry him a long way.

1200m to the mile isn’t an easy distance increase but 1 Tycoon Evie (Bet Now: $2.80) does look above average. Didn’t beat a great deal when winning at Eagle Farm a few weeks ago but to be fair, Apache Chase ticked the form off somewhat when winning a moderate Daybreak Lover last Saturday. She is progressive though this girl and can win again in a weak-ish race.

Danger

3 Better Get Set (Bet Now: $21.00) is an O’Dea/Hoysted trained filly that should be better for her first run at the mile from two weeks ago here. They rode her warm, leading on her, and she fought on pretty well, but had every chance when fourth to Tumbler Ridge. Perhaps with a bunny to chase, she’ll be more effective.

Long Shot

11 Rations (Bet Now: $15.00) will want this to be a truly run mile. Daughter of Outreach for Barry Baldwin that broke the maiden tag over the mile at Eagle Farm last time. Looked in a bit of trouble on the turn but as the race went on, she got better and was dominant. I think she can measure up and run well against these.

Hoping for sustained speed to come to the fore via 13 Cardiff (Bet Now: $7.00) for Kody Nestor, who comes here with relatively fresh legs, having not raced since the Flat Knacker at Albury when fourth to Just A Flash. Looked sharp in a recent trial and think he’ll find the front, proving hard to get past.

Danger

9 Maozi (Bet Now: $8.50) is a quality mare for Team Edmonds that resumes. This girl had a mixed Spring/Summer. Looked very promising early on, going on to place at Stakes level before running an absolute howler in the Nudgee behind Athiri and was spelled soon after. Loved her trials leading in and she’s capable fresh.

Long Shot

8 Howwonderfullifeis (Bet Now: $19.00) can be hit and miss but her best is certainly good enough to be around the mark. Three weeks between runs since racing over 1000m at Eagle Farm. She was near the speed and did try hard, but couldn’t quite finish the job when fourth to Le Palmier. Think that form reads well for a race like this.

Back Me

The way I’m reading this, Godolphin want blacktype for 4 Andermatt (Bet Now: $5.50). Couldn’t get it in Sydney so they come here and I think it’s a perfect race for him. I also think the 1200m he ran last start just found him out, so has had a mini freshen up, trialled well and Blinkers on, so to my eye, it’s chips in for blacktype for a well bred colt.

Danger

1 Simply Fly (Bet Now: $4.20) is a beauty for Rex Lipp that should prove hard to beat here. Ran over 1050m here two weeks ago where he was run off his legs early and looked like not featuring at all, but loved the way he found the line late in the piece when a narrow second to Ballistic Lover. Up in trip, more genuine tempo, he’ll be strong at the end.

Long Shot

3 Lord Olympus (Bet Now: $4.80) is a quality three year old for Mark Newnham that comes to Brisbane after a solid effort a few weeks ago in the Darby Munro when on speed and fighting on pretty well when fifth to Isotope, who would be $1.50 against these, so the form reads well and do feel this is astute placement.

Race 9. (16:23) Sky Racing (bm85) 1350m

15 Skins (Bet Now: $2.05) is a very talented animal for David Vandyke that could progress to blacktype this prep. Just under a month between runs since resuming over the 1110m here when sitting back in the small field before easing wider and in a matter of strides, he put them away and gee he was dominant. Confident he can measure up and continue his winning ways.

Danger

6 Royal Hale (Bet Now: $13.00) has done little wrong this time in for Tony Gollan. He comes through the Wonderful Riri race from a fortnight back here. Had a suck run behind the speed and did try hard, but couldn’t quite finish the job and had to settle for a close up fourth. Reckon with a more conservative steer, he’ll be more effective.

Long Shot

It’ll be interesting to see what they do with 18 Partners (Bet Now: $41.00). Last prep, she raced best when adopting a jump/run style of racing. This time in, she has been ridden a bit more conservatively and while she has run well, she hasn’t been as effective as last prep, so I’d love to see an aggressive steer, especially on a firm Doomben deck, where on speed is an advantage.
