14/3/2011 Morphettville Tips and Selections

Joseph Galati, resident South Australian form expert analyses racing on Adelaide Cup day from Allan Scott Park Morphettville.

Race 1 – Allan Scott Park Morphettville HCP (RTG 94) 1200m

First race on a huge day of racing is for the sprinters and I have Mother’s Milk (6) in top. She is slightly back in distance which is a bit of a concern for me but she is going well enough to win again. Goon Serpent (8) looks promising whilst Valoroso (5) goes well but is getting on in age.

Race 2 – Myer Fashions On The Field HCP (RTG 94) 1100m

Beldara (7) goes on top in the second in what is a very even race. She is flying and is weighted perfectly here. He record of 5 starts for 4 wins speaks for itself and she will be right up there first up from a 4 month spell. Regalina (11) has been racing in good company recently and goes in the top tips as does Netra (5).

Race 3 – Sportingbet Magic Millions Adelaide 2YO Classic 1200m

No doubt Star Salute (8) will be short but it looks handy. Not much to really say about this small field of babies but I’m putting this filly from the Moody yard on top. Whisper Downs (7) debuts for the Hayes team and should be ready to go whilst More Awesome (1) looks a chance.

Race 4 – Pewsey Vale Stakes (Cinderella Listed Stakes) 1050m

Chinchilla (1) goes on top here. The filly is from the Lee Freedman yard and although she has drawn the widest in a field of 8 runners, she has ability just oozing out of her and she goes in as my top tip. My Choisir (2) is the main danger and looks a big chance. Pecuniary (5) is also from the Freedman yard and goes in for third and we think Freedman should have either the quinella or the duet here.

Race 5 – Schweppervescence Stakes (Auraria Stakes GRP 3) 1800m

Southern Speed (2) got no favours in last weeks Australian Guineas from Flemington and ran home quite nicely. She is the one to beat by far. Hopefully she has come back to Adelaide in good condition and I assume she has. Back her to win. Always Discreet (6) is in the same boat as Southern Speed and was very good last start behind Lights Of Heaven in a Group 2 at Moonee Valley. Absolutely (7) goes in for third.

Race 6 – Dunes Port Hughes R N Irwin Stakes GRP 3 WFA 1100m

Avenue (6) is a mare that I took a lot of time to warm to but I see the potential that she obviously has and her second in the Oakleigh Plate last start puts her well above any of these. She should win. Obsidian Dragon (9) is speedy and wont be giving Avenue (6) any favours. Catapulted (1) will bounce back and the rest and too similar to put in the top tips.

Race 7 – C S Hayes Listed Memorial Cup 1600m

Cracking race. Once again Public Holiday (9) goes on top. At JHR, we cant get enough of this mare from the Patinack Farm yard and she goes on top. Budriguez (5) is going very well and must be included whilst River’s Lane (4) is another favourite of ours and will hit back hard in the seventh. Go wide in this, the first leg of the quaddie.

Race 8 – Adelaide Casino Adelaide Cup GRP 2 3200m

Race 9 – Yallambee Classic GRP 2 1200m

Another amazing race on a bumper ten race card here at Morphettville. Stirling Grove (1) helped punters forget his first up defeat with a close win at Caulfield second up last start and goes on top here. Obsequious (10) is third up and should be very close as should Miss Gai Flyer (11) is in fine form and cannot be left out. General Truce (2) and Bigelow (3) also go in.

Race 10 – Clean S.A HCP (RTG 75) 1050m

Grand Taj (1) is coming off a close fourth is the Redelva Stakes a fortnight ago and goes on top. He is a good chance and I am confident he will win. Its hard to find anything that will really pressure him but Andronica (5) looks an each way chance first up and Protector (2) goes in for third.

BEST BET: Win Bet – Race 5) #2 Southern Speed.
