Hannon hints at retirement

Champion British trainer Richard Hannon has given one of the clearest signals yet he is soon to retire from racing.

The 66-year-old told the Times he is poised to pass on the baton to his son, Richard Hannon jnr.

โ€œIt might be nice to get out while Iโ€™m in front,โ€ Hannon said.

โ€œIโ€™ll hand over soon. Richard is 36 now, itโ€™s time he got some winners on the board.

โ€œItโ€™s been on my mind, but there are lots of people to inform before it gets done.

โ€œWeโ€™ll get through the next month and then see.

โ€œIโ€™d still be out with the horses every day. Nothing much will change.โ€

Hannon has topped the Flat trainersโ€™ championship for the past two years, but underwent a second heart operation in March.

โ€œThe surgery took five and a half hours and it slowed me down for a while,โ€ he said.
