Engels off to Hong Kong

David Brown is not too downhearted about the sale to Hong Kong of Frederick Engels – but confirmed the top two-year-old will not run again for him.

Owners Pearl Bloodstock received a substantial offer for the colt, who was still a possibility for next month’s Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket.

Sheikh Fahad Al Thani’s operation snapped up Frederick Engels before his victory in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Ascot and he went on to take the July Stakes at Newmarket.

He was found to have coughed during his disappointing run in the Prix Morny.

Brown’s efforts with the son of Iceman are, however, being rewarded by the Sheikh.

“He isn’t going to run again, he’s going to have a rest before going to Hong Kong,” Brown said.

“I’m not unhappy about it – we had a brilliant time with him and they were offered a fantastic amount of money.

“The owners are having more horses with me, so onwards and upwards.”
