Animal Kingdom aiming for Classic rule

Animal Kingdom is set to return to the scene of his Kentucky Derby triumph for the Breedersโ€™ Cup Classic at Churchill Downs on November 5.

The Graham Motion-trained colt is currently recovering from a leg injury he incurred when finishing sixth in the Belmont Stakes in New York, the third and final leg of the American Triple Crown, earlier this month.

He was also runner-up in the second leg, the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico.

โ€œThe Kentucky Derby was fantastic and hopefully heโ€™ll be back for the Breedersโ€™ Cup Classic in the fall,โ€ Barry Irwin, founder and chief executive of Team Valor who own and bred the three-year-old, said.

โ€œHe got hurt in that last race. He took a bad step coming out of the starting gate and bruised a hind cannon bone. It was not a big deal but it would set him back about a month to six weeks.โ€
