21/8/2021 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – York, Ebor Handicap day

The 2021 Ebor Festival at York wraps up this Saturday, headlined by the showpiece event of the Carnival, the Ebor Handicap (2787m).

Ebor Handicap 🏆: View the Field and Odds for the Ebor Handicap

Race 1. (22:50) Strensall Stakes 1771m

Back Me

2 My Oberon (Bet Now: $6.00) can book himself a ticket to Moonee Valley for the Cox Plate with a win here. Talented son of Dubawi for William Haggas that comes here with fresh legs, having not raced since Royal Ascot when a gutsy fourth to Love. That form is A1 and he did bolt up fresh last prep.

Danger

6 Real World (Bet Now: $1.83) is an absolute beauty for Saeed Bin Suroor that is absolutely flying this time in. Royal Hunt Cup winner fresh at Royal Ascot, then proved that was no fluke when spanking his rivals at Newbury. He’s potentially heading towards the big league of Group l company, but needs to win this to confirm that.

Long Shot

1 Lord Glitters (Bet Now: $15.00) has been a mighty campaigner for a number of seasons. Hasn’t raced since the Queen Anne where he ran his usual honest race and was so good in defeat behind a star, Palace Pier. Good record at York and he rarely runs a bad race with fresh legs.

Race 2. (23:25) Melrose Handicap 2787m

Back Me

1 King Of The Castle (Bet Now: $8.00) on top but not really a race I want to dive into as a betting proposition. Aidan O’Brien trained colt that comes here off the back of a spank job of his rivals at Limerick. He didn’t beat a great deal but the manner in which he won impressed me. In the right camp and the extra ground should be fine.

Danger

2 Dhushan (Bet Now: $7.00) is racing really well at the moment for William Haggas and has to command respect. Bit of quality about his win two back at Musselburgh. Then went to Ascot when a game second in what has turned out to be a decent form reference. Gets Tom Marquand steering and the trip is no issue.

Long Shot

16 True Courage (Bet Now: $26.00) is going for four on the bounce and I think he’s a leading chance. He does rise a fair bit in class/quality, but hard to knock the way he’s racing at the moment, his third straight win coming at Yarmouth in good style. Not sure he has the class to win, but a first four threat.

Race 3. (00:00) City Of York Stakes 1408m

Back Me

6 Space Blues (Bet Now: $2.10) looks the good thing on the card. He resumed at Goodwood where I was quite keen on him and seemed to have his chance when fourth. Perhaps first up since Meydan, he needed the run. He is a high class animal and confident he will come on from that and prove too good.

Danger

9 Primo Bacio (Bet Now: $4.20) is a talented filly that drops a bit in grade after contesting Group l company her past couple where she was far from disgraced, the latest run being Mother Earth. Takes on a class type here in Space Blues, but does have hard race fitness and is a winner at York.

Long Shot

4 Safe Voyage (Bet Now: $13.00) can bounce back. Impressive winner two back at Listed level at Chester before going to Goodwood where nothing went right for him from the outset, so forget he went around. His best is capable of causing damage, so I wouldn’t entirely dismiss him.

Race 4. (00:35) Ebor Handicap 2787m

Back Me

The Ebor Handicap, and potentially a Melbourne Cup Prelude with a host of runners here nominated and likely coming to Melbourne. 10 Sonnyboyliston (Bet Now: $11.00) is one horse that is likely coming to Melbourne, depending on how he goes here. Wanted to lay in but was strong late when winning two back. Then raced here and was far from disgraced in defeat behind a classy animal, Hukum. That reads well for this.

Danger

23 Live Your Dream (Bet Now: $7.00) looks clearly the one to beat on current form, and is very well in at the weights. He has won three of four this time in, the latest a narrow but strong effort at Newmarket over this trip. Should be able to land in a plum spot from the draw and hard to knock the way he’s going.

Long Shot

21 Makawee (Bet Now: $41.00) is nominated for the Melbourne Cup so you’d assume this run will determine if she makes the trip over or not. The key to her is racing at York on dry ground. That is her A1 set up and she gets that here, so at $34+, can happily speck her 1×3 at those odds.

Race 5. (01:10) Julia Graves Roses Stakes 1005m

Back Me

7 Ballet Steps (Bet Now: $8.00) gets the nod. This filly resumed just under two weeks ago at Beverley where she got into a tricky spot early but picked up and surged late to and win well. Jumps a fair bit in grade/depth but she is a filly who is well and truly open to more improvement.

Danger

6 Attagirl (Bet Now: $4.20) is racing well and is a key chance. Just a tad plain two back at Group lll level at Ascot. Then went to Newbury where she looked home but was nabbed in the final couple of strides. She has had a busy schedule but continues to race well and the big key is 1000m. That is her sweet spot.

Long Shot

10 Thunder Love (Bet Now: $7.00) creates interest. Unbeaten filly that resumes after starting her career back in March with a win at Kempton Park then repeating the dose in May at the same track. If she can translate that to the Turf, she has to be seriously respected here.

Race 6. (01:45) Sky Bet Handicap 2062m

Back Me

Waddle your finger and hope for the best. 2 Migration (Bet Now: $4.20) does look one of the more progressive gallopers of this bunch though. Unlucky when resuming but made amends at Glorious Goodwood when an impressive winner in a race similar to this. Heading in the right direction and is hard to beat.

Danger

15 Wahraan (Bet Now: $7.50) is looking to make it three on the bounce for Sir Michael Stoute. Pontefract maiden winner two back before backing that up with a strong performance at Newmarket when bolting up by close to six lengths. He’s got more to come and is a key threat.

Long Shot

14 Good Birthday (Bet Now: $17.00) rises a fair bit in grade/depth but Andrew Balding has him going really well at the moment. He didn’t beat up the strongest of fields at Doncaster last time out but was impressive the way he put them away. In a wide open race, I’d consider him a first four threat.

Race 7. (02:20)

Back Me

These apprentice only races, anything goes really, and especially over the 1000m. However, it does set up as a perfect scenario for 10 Blind Beggar (Bet Now: $4.75), who only knows one way to run, and that is hard from the front, so I suspect the instructions to Joanna Mason will be sit and steer.

Danger

2 Blackrod (Bet Now: $4.75) comes here as a last start winner and is a threat. Showed promise as a juvenile and has translated that to this season, getting the job done at Newmarket last time out in good style. You’d like to think there is more to come and he’ll take beating here.

Long Shot

7 Digital (Bet Now: $9.50) is racing really well at the moment. Close up at Goodwood two back before winning a thin race at Ripon but he made a mess of them and was impressive in beating his four rivals. Harder here, but gets in very well at the weights after the claim and is a definite winning chance.
