G1 winning mare Toffee Tongue’s first foal wins on debut

Heironaut, the first foal of Group 1-winning filly Toffee Tongue, made a successful start to his racing career with a decisive debut victory at Sale on Thursday.

The King’s Legacy gelding, bred by and still part-owned by Jonathan Munz, was having his first race start for trainers Anthony and Sam Freedman in the 1400-metre event.

Ridden by Teo Nugent, who completed a treble on the program, Heironaut led throughout to justify his favouritism, defeating Lowestoft by one-and-three-quarter lengths, with Elite Pete finishing third.

Heironaut was purchased for $300,000 by his trainer and bloodstock agent Suman Hedge at the 2024 Magic Millions Yearling Sale and became the first winner for his dam.

Toffee Tongue was a standout performer on the track, highlighted by her victory in the Australasian Oaks, and she is a sister to Hong Kong champion Werther and Group 3 winner Gobstopper.

Ownership of Heironaut also includes Trilogy Racing alongside Hedge and Munz.

The Freedman stable capped off a strong day with four winners overall, highlighted by a treble at Sandown.
