What the jockeys said: Golden Slipper

What the jockeys said after the $3.5 million Group One Golden Slipper at Rosehill.

NASH RAWILLER (Pierro) 1st: Outstanding, wasn’t he? He made his own luck today. I was pretty confident a long way out. It’s as confident as what you would see me ride I reckon.

COREY BROWN (Snitzerland) 2nd: I just had the easiest run in front. She travelled really sweet. I let her roll from the 400-metre mark because she got a little bit rough in her action last time so I got her into gear and thought I was the winner. It took a good one to beat her.

CRAIG NEWITT (Samaready) 3rd: Great run. She was slow out of the gates which probably cost her the race.

DAMIEN OLIVER (Doubtfilly) 4th: Excellent run. I’ve never been on a 100/1 pop that travelled so well.

HUGH BOWMAN (Raceway) 5th: I had the best run of all and travelled beautifully. When I peeled him out I was just full of confidence but he just didn’t give me what I needed.

TOMMY BERRY (Driefontein) 6th: She reared up as the gates opened again. Her finishing sectionals were unreal when she got out. You wait until next preparation, she’ll be a Group One horse for sure.

BRETT PREBBLE (Shelford) 7th: He had to get further back than what I would have liked from that barrier but he’s a potentially lovely horse and has a great attitude.

CHRISTIAN REITH (Cavalry Rose) 8th: Toughest filly I’ve ever ridden. A star in the making.

STEVEN ARNOLD (Amorino) 9th: He ran really honest. I followed the winner and he just had too good a kick for us. He finished off well and tried his heart out.

CRAIG WILLIAMS (No Looking Back) 10th: I couldn’t have been happier with the position I got into. From the top of the straight I just didn’t have anywhere to go and then when I did get somewhere to go I didn’t have the horse. She got a bit high in her action towards the wire so I think she might have felt the track a bit.

JIM CASSIDY (Faustus) 11th: I just had to do a bit of work. I ended up in a good spot but you’ve got to do too much work from out there.

JAMES McDONALD (Ashokan) 12th: He went all right. He battled on pretty well but it was hard for him drawing barrier 14.

PETER ROBL (Narcissus) 13th: I would say he’s probably just come to the end of it. The seven day turnaround didn’t agree with him.

LUKE NOLEN (Later Gator) 14th: She ran nicely but probably just lacks that bit of quality against that lot.

GLYN SCHOFIELD (Jade Marauder) 15th: She ran well. She got back and ran home well.

KERRIN McEVOY (Epaulette) 16th: He was awkwardly placed. Got a check on the corner halfway round and didn’t have any sort of luck.
