Terry Bailey calls his final race

Monday at Pakenham marked the end of an era as Terry Bailey called his final race, closing the book on a celebrated race-calling career in Victoria.

Bailey, who began his journey in Queensland before shifting to Victoria in 2005, made his mark through TVN and later became a mainstay at racing.com as both a caller and host.

While he will continue to appear on racing.com through his beloved “Tuesdays With Terry” segment, Monday’s meeting was his last in the role of Victoria’s Senior Race Caller.

“I’ve had the greatest life in the world as a race caller and I thank you all,” Bailey said on racing.com before his final call.

The curtain came down with a thrilling finish in a 1600m Benchmark 70 race, where Bailey accurately called Reset The Jazz as the winner over Queen Of Tuscany in a close photo.

“I got the photo right, got the right horse, got the name right, didn’t go the early crow, you beauty!” he said afterward.

“I feel very special, I feel very humbled … I came into the racing world very quietly and I want to leave very quietly.”
