Jockey Chad Schofield has paid a heavy price for his Champions Mile victory with stewards fining him $35,000 and outing him for a month on careless riding and whip charges.
The Sydney-based Schofield pleaded guilty to the careless riding charge near the 1400-metre mark and was suspended for 18 meetings after stewards classified it as being a mid-range offence.
He also pleaded guilty to breaching the whip rules, which saw him outed for a further 11 meetings on top of a $35,000 fine.
The two suspensions are to be served cumulatively.
Schofield will begin his suspension on November 16 and he will be free to ride again from December 17.
