Rhys McLeod sidelined with pelvic fracture after Pakenham fall

Senior jockey Rhys McLeod is set for an extended period out of the saddle after suffering a fractured pelvis in a fall following the final race at Pakenham on Thursday night.

The 43-year-old was dislodged after guiding Lim’s Smythe ($5) into seventh position in the last event on the program.

McLeod was attended to immediately and transported to Dandenong Hospital, where scans conducted on Friday morning confirmed the pelvic fracture.

The injury has resulted in several changes to Saturday’s Flemington meeting, with replacement riders required for the six mounts McLeod had been booked to ride.

He was also scheduled to take five rides at Sunday’s meeting at Seymour, all of which will now require new jockey engagements.
