New Zealand wins thrilling Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m) with Wall Street

Tough New Zealand gelding Wall Street has stuck his nose out to win the Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m) in a blanket finish.

In a thrilling finish, there were five horses stretched across the track at the finish, with favourite Wall Street winning by a short head.

Second was the Team Hawkes-trained Dao Dao, with third going to the Heath Conners-trained Chasm.

Macau visitor Luen Yat Forever finished fourth, no more than a long head away from Wall Street.

However, the race was marred by severe interference in the early stages in which a number of horses were affected – most notably, Queensland horse Rothera and Crystal Mile winner Sound Journey.

Wall Street’s trainer Jeff Lynds has indicated that the horse will now spell with his eyes firmly focused on the 2011 W.S Cox Plate (2040m).

He finished 7th to So You Think in this year’s running of the Cox Plate.
