Monteith to leave VRC

Dale Monteith will leave his position as chief executive of the Victoria Racing Club after 12 years, but not before overseeing the running of the Melbourne Cup Carnival for the final time this spring.

Monteith was appointed to the role in June 2000 and crossed from the Victoria Amateur Turf Club โ€“ now Melbourne Racing Club โ€“ where he held a similar post.

During his time with the VRC he has been responsible for developing and implementing strategies that have resulted in the growth of the Melbourne Cup Carnival and the internationalisation of the Melbourne Cup.

The first ever complete re-build of the Flemington race track took place in Monteithโ€™s time, as did the development and execution of the $70 million master plan associated with Flemingtonโ€™s racing and training infrastructure.

The VRC will consider both internal and external candidates before the appointment of its next chief executive which is expected before the end of the year.

Monteith is the second high profile racing administrator to be leaving his job at the end of the year with Racing Victoria chief executive Rob Hines also to finish after the carnival.
