Luke Currie eyes first international Group 1 win in New Zealand

Veteran jockey Luke Currie is set to chase his first Group 1 victory outside Australia aboard Town Cryer in the $400,000 Mufhasa Classic (1600m) at Trentham on December 7.

The 43-year-old, who boasts 13 career Group 1 wins, sees this as a milestone opportunity in his distinguished career.

Town Cryer, a seven-year-old mare trained by Roydon Bergerson, brings strong credentials to the race, including two Group 3 victories and a Group 1 placing.

Her recent start over the mile at Trentham in October adds familiarity with the track, bolstering her chances.

Currie’s international experience includes wins in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, and Mauritius, showcasing his ability to adapt to global racing circuits.

Now, he aims to add a New Zealand Group 1 to his resume.
