Jockey Josh Cartwright has been slapped with a $20,000 fine after admitting guilt to charges of training two racehorses without the necessary license.
Racing Victoria stewards initiated the charges against Cartwright and licensed trainer Carly Cook after scrutinizing the training arrangement for gallopers Pintoff and Seethru, an unraced three-year-old.
Cartwright, 29, pleaded guilty to violating AR 97 (1), stipulating that one can only train a horse at a registered racecourse, training track, or facility if issued a proper license or permit from the relevant authority.
The charges specified that between January 31, 2023, and September 8, 2023, Cartwright trained Pintoff and Seethru at Cook’s premises without the required license.
Meanwhile, Cook pleaded not guilty to a charge under AR 97 (2), alleging her involvement in the breach.
Evidence from Cook, Cartwright, and managing owner Peter Sandars was considered, along with findings from Racing Victoria’s Compliance Assurance Team.
Cook’s case has been adjourned, allowing her to submit written responses to stewards by December 29.
