Japanese jockey Yoshiki Kamomiya kicks off Australian stint

Yoshiki Kamomiya, a renowned Japanese jockey with 756 career victories, has ventured into Victoriaโ€™s racing scene, seeking to expand his horizons and refine his craft.

At 31, Kamomiya boasts a decorated resume, including 10 Group-level wins and a personal best of 139 wins last year alone.

His recent triumph in the $500,000 Sonoda Kimpai highlights his readiness for new challenges.

Based at Henry Dwyerโ€™s Ballarat stables for the next four months, Kamomiya made his local debut at Cranbourne, finishing 9th despite tough odds.

This marked a significant step out of his comfort zone, having previously competed almost exclusively in Japanโ€™s National Association of Racing circuit.

Kamomiya aims to immerse himself in Australian training methods and racing culture.

Managed by Kosi Kawakami, he plans to leverage his lightweight riding advantage across Victoria.
