Hooping raises $10,000 for injured rider

Racing Victoria will donate $10,000 to injured jockey Louise Cooper after a craze known as hooping swept through social networking sites.

Photos of hooping, where people pose in a jockey’s riding position, were uploaded on Racing Victoria’s Facebook page which attracted the required 10,000 “likes” in just four days.

Racing Victoria committed $1 for every “like” to a maximum of $10,000 to Cooper who sustained life-changing injuries as a result of a serious fall at Edenhope in March.

The hooping phenomenon was initiated by jockey Chris Symons and former jockey Logan McGill as a bit of fun on Twitter before it was embraced by racing officials to raise funds for Cooper.
