Highly anticipated Ranvet Stakes clash in doubt

The highly anticipated Ranvet Stakes rematch between Addeybb and Verry Elleegant is in doubt after the William Haggas-trained galloper was found to be mildly lame.

The team around Ranvet Stakes titleholder Addeybb remain confident he will be passed fit to start despite a lameness scare a day out from the Group One race.

Racing NSW veterinarians inspected the William Haggas-trained gelding after he completed some light work at Canterbury on Friday and ruled him to be mildly lame in the near foreleg.

The stable believes the horse has reacted to being recently plated, an issue he has recovered from quickly in the past.

β€œThe William Haggas stable advised Racing NSW stewards that the mild lameness is due to the gelding being recently plated and they are confident that the lameness will resolve by Saturday morning as the gelding has previously displayed similar tendencies after being plated,” Racing NSW stewards said in a statement.

Addeybb will undergo a vet inspection on race morning to determine if he is fit to take his place in the 2000 metre feature.

He defeated Verry Elleegant in the corresponding race 12 months ago and on Friday remained a $2.15 favourite with TAB fixed odds to defend his crown, with Verry Elleegant at $2.70.
