General Beau to be paid up for Blue Diamond Stakes field

Impressive two-year-old colt General Beau will be given his chance to win Melbourneโ€™s feature juvenile event with owner David Moodie to pay the late entry.

The Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra trained General Beau has now had four starts for three wins and a second after winning both the Blue Diamond Prelude and the Blue Diamond Preview however due to not being nominated for the Blue Diamond Stakes he was always doubtful to line-up in the final field on the 20th February.

The win in yesterdays Prelude for the colts and geldings persuaded his own to pay up the $55,000 late entry fee for the grand final in a fortnights time which looked the logical decision with the $1.5m event now being seen as a stallion making racing.

Moodie has 30 two-year-olds in work each season and it is his policy not to enter them for the major two-year-old races.

In 2009 he paid $150,000 as a late entry fee for his Golden Slipper winner Crystal Lily.

General Beauโ€™s jockey Jamie Kah said thinks he would be better suited by a faster speed in the Blue Diamond Stakes.

โ€œHe just needs pace because heโ€™s got so much left and he was just idling and pricking his ears,โ€ Kah said.

Sportsbet had listed as a $21 chance in Blue Diamond odds prior to the announcement.
