Free drinks on offer if stars deliver in Doomben Cup clash

Two jockeys ride galloping horses in a race, with the lead horse wearing a green saddlecloth and the rider in blue diamond-pattern silks ahead of a rival.

Racegoers at Saturday’s Group 1 Doomben Cup will have extra reason to cheer, with Brisbane Racing Club and XXXX offering a complimentary drink if either Pride Of Jenni or Half Yours claims victory.

The “XXXX Cheers to the Champs” promotion is built around a highly anticipated rematch between two of the sport’s headline performers.

Four-time Group 1 winner Pride Of Jenni will again take on reigning Melbourne Cup champion Half Yours after their recent clash in the Hollindale Stakes.

The raceday will also feature a special farewell for last year’s Doomben Cup winner Antino, who will lead the field out following his recent retirement.

A similar promotion was offered last year when Antino saluted, delivering a memorable experience for on-course patrons.

Brisbane Racing Club CEO Karl deKroo said the initiative was designed to build on that success.

“The response to last year’s Antino versus Pride Of Jenni clash was extremely strong, so we were keen to create something similar around another high-quality race,” deKroo said.

“Having Antino return to lead the field adds another element to the day and gives racegoers the chance to acknowledge his contribution.”

Lion Queensland field sales director Marc Woolnough said the promotion added to the raceday atmosphere.

“It’s a good opportunity to highlight a race featuring two high-profile horses and add to the atmosphere on course,” Woolnough said.

With star power on the track and added incentives for fans, the Doomben Cup meeting shapes as one of the highlights of the Queensland carnival.
