Exciting young stallion dies

Coventry Stakes winner and shuttle stallion Calyx has been euthanised following an acute foot injury.

The first son of the renowned Kingman to race, Calyx shot to prominence with his Group 2 Coventry Stakes win at Royal Ascot under the guidance of trainer John Gosden.

His stud career included two seasons at Coolmore Australia, where he sired 23 winners, among them current three-year-old stakes performers Sepals and Likeakalix.

β€œIt is very unfortunate to lose such a promising young sire,” said Castlehyde’s Cathal Murphy.

β€œHe was very strongly supported by breeders last year and looked to have an extremely bright future ahead of him.”
