Duggan dodges Hawkesbury Guineas with Fox

Gosford trainer Adam Duggan has decided not to step Fox up in distance in Saturday’s Hawkesbury Guineas and will instead tackle a support race with the stakes-placed filly.

Three-year-old Fox is nominated for the Listed Hawkesbury Guineas (1400m) and Listed Darley Crown (1300m) but Duggan said the filly would start in a restricted 1200m event.

Fox turned in a career-best performance last start when second to the promising Pampelonne in the Listed Gosford Guineas (1200m).

“I have made up my mind and she’s going to run in the 1200-metre race and not the Guineas,” Duggan said.

“I decided that I didn’t want to run her over 1400 (metres) because there’s a nice race for three-year-old fillies over 1100 metres at Scone in a couple of weeks.

“I didn’t want to run her at 1400 and then have to come back to 1100 two weeks later. I think she’s well-placed in Saturday’s race even though she’s got a little bit of weight (57.5kg).”

Josh Parr is booked to ride Fox.

The Hawkesbury Guineas nominations include the unbeaten Gai Waterhouse-trained Landing who took out the Listed South Pacific Classic (1400m) at Randwick at his most recent start.
