French jockey Gerald Mosse, 56, is considering a final ride in the Melbourne Cup, potentially marking the end of his illustrious career.
Speaking during the Victoria Racing Club’s Melbourne Cup Tour in Europe, Mosse reminisced about his 2010 win on Americain, the first ever by a French horse and jockey pair.
“This is my wish,” he said, adding, “It probably will be my last Melbourne Cup. I will do everything to be there, to participate and to win if I could. I would say, probably, it will be the end of my career.”
Describing his previous win as feeling like ‘yesterday,’ Mosse recounted the electrifying atmosphere of the race.
“When you get a feeling like that, you cannot forget and you’re looking for the next one,” he said.
“The crowd, the atmosphere, everything was there on that day. You go from one-minute jockey to rock star.”
The Melbourne Cup holds a special place in the hearts of Australians, and Mosse aims to relive the thrill, one last time.
