Bookmaker has cash stolen from bag

A bookmaker has had $7,000 stolen from her bag at a Bendigo race meeting at the end of November.

Bendigo police are calling for information after an on course bookmaker from Melbourne had $7,000 stolen from her handbag whilst working at the Bendigo races on the 27th November.

The bookmaker who has not been named had her hand bag taken from her feet as she was working which contained the money, she later found the handbag dumped in a skip bin without the cash inside.

β€œThe victim had her handbag stolen from the betting ring. The bag contained $7000 in cash,” Senior Constable Guerin told the Bendigo Advertiser.

β€œShe got her handbag back about 6pm after it was found in a skip bin but (they thief) had taken the cash.”

Senior Constable Guerin said police are hoping people in Bendigo might be aware of someone who came into a large amount of money recently.

β€œ(The bookmaker) had the bag at her feet but was preoccupied with her work,” he said.

β€œNo one saw anything, there are no witnesses and no CCTV. We are hoping someone in the community might know of someone who came into a large amount of cash recently.”
