Dual Stradbroke Handicap winner Black Piranha has fetched top price of $245,000 at the spring thoroughbred sale and will do his future racing out of Victoria.
The eight-year-old was sold to dissolve the partnership which raced him with young Sydney trainer Con Karakatsanis who prepared him to win the 2009 and 2010 Stradbroke Handicaps.
Black Piranha has won another six races from his 60 starts and also been placed on 17 occasions, earning prize money of $2.65 million.
He was knocked down to Cameron Cooke Bloodstock at the Inglis sale in Sydney on Friday.
Cooke did not disclose his client or the gelding’s new trainer but said Black Piranha would continue to race at the highest level.
“There was plenty of tough competition about, but I’m delighted to be able to pick such a high-quality galloper up for my Melbourne-based client,” Cooke said.
“He looked in sparkling condition in the ring and his form has been outstanding, with his run the other day to finish fourth in the George Main a top effort.
“He will head to Melbourne to be aimed at some of the big spring carnival races, followed by possible trips to New Zealand then Dubai next year.”
