The search is on to find a new jockey for Smart Missile in Saturday’s Group One Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes following a freak injury to regular rider Glen Boss.
Boss is undergoing scans on his left shoulder after falling from 2010 Golden Slipper winner Crystal Lily, who collapsed and died during a jump-out at Flemington on Friday morning.
Smart Missile’s trainer Anthony Cummings is liaising with Philippines based owner Eduardo Cojuangco to find a replacement to ride the three-year-old at 53kg.
Cummings said Hong King-based Australian jockey Brett Prebble and the Singapore-based Joao Moreira were among those being considered.
“Brett Prebble and Joe Moreira said they would be available as well,” Cummings said on Sky Sports Radio on Friday.
“We’ve got a list of six to eight to choose from.
“Nothing is confirmed. I need to speak to Mr Cojuangco before we can go on and confirm anything.
Moreira has made two trips to Sydney in recent weeks riding the Nathan Tinkler-owned Trusting to victory on both occasions.
Smart Missile is the $3.50 favourite with TAB Sportsbet for Saturday’s Group One race.
