A look at the Country Championships series

The Newhaven Park Country Championships consists of a series of seven races, each held at a club representing one racing region in NSW. Each race is worth $150,000 in prizemoney and can be contested by eligible horses that must be under the care of a country trainer in that region. An eighth ‘Wild Card’ race, worth $50,000, will be held to provide one more opportunity for horses to qualify for the final that have already contested an earlier heat. The first and second horse in each regional race will qualify for the $500,000 Newhaven Park Country Championships final to be held at Royal Randwick in Sydney on Day 1 of The Championships, Saturday 2 April 2022.

With six qualifying races for the Newhaven Park Country Championship having already been run and won. … this is the current status of the series.

Northern Rivers region:

Winner: Far Too Easy – Trainer David McColm

Runner-up: Zoukina – Trainer Stephen Lee

South-East region:

Winner: Testator Silens – Trainer Luke Clark

Runner-up: To The Nines – Trainer Tash Burleigh

Southern Districts region:

Winner: Another One – Trainer Gary Colvin

Runner-up: Tap ‘N’ Run – Trainer Ron Stubbs

Mid-North Coast region:

Winner: Swamp Nation – Trainer Glen Milligan

Runner-up: Little Prophet – Trainer Colt Prosser

Central Districts region:

Winner: Zoo Station – Trainer Gayna Williams

Runner-up: Tags – Trainer Gayna Williams

Hunter and North-West Region

Winner: Anethole – Trainer Cody Morgan

Runner-up: Commando Hunt – Trainer Cameron Crockett

The remaining two qualifying races are

The Western region – to take place om March 13

The Wildcard qualifier – to take place om March 20.
