Watch: One of the sickest beats you’ll see this year

Punters will be licking their wounds at the Gold Coast today after what was one of the sickest beats you’ll see this year.

It was an eventful race from the beginning with jockey Glen Colless dislodged from his mount as they left the barriers.

The Michael Costa-trained La Pulga was a well backed favourite in the Ladies In Racing Magazine Handicap (2200m) and looked to have rivals covered in the home straight.

That was until the riderless horse thought it would be a good idea to continue racing and eventually causing severe interference in the dying stages of the race.

Not all was lost for La Pulga backers though with jockey Jag Guthmann-Chester throwing the 4YO gelding over the line to secure a dead-heat for first but it’s a far cry from what looked to be a sure thing had there not had interference.
