A pair of golfers have had been left red-faced after narrowly avoiding being trampled during the Great Northern Steeplechase (6400m) at Ellerslie on Saturday.
Race caller George Simon didn’t shy away when describing the pair as “absolute dickheads”.
“There’s some absolute idiots playing golf out on the course proper, can you believe that?” Simon said.
“You absolute dickheads.”
The Ellerslie racecourse has a pitch and putt golf course inside the track so seeing golfers in the telecast isn’t uncommon but certainly not on the racecourse itself.
Simon kept his composure to finish the call with race favourite Magic Wonder taking home the prize.
