Five-time Group 1 winner Verry Elleegant has opened the $4.50 favourite at TAB for Saturday’s $5 million Caulfield Cup after the barrier draw was unveiled.
The Chris Waller-trained mare was victorious last start in the TAB Turnbull Stakes over 2000 metres at Flemington on October 3 after finishing fourth in the George Main Stakes over 1600 metres at Randwick on September 19.
Verry Elleegant has won two Group 1s over 2400 metres and they were the 2019 Australian Oaks at Randwick and the Tancred Stakes at Rosehill last March.
Anthony Van Dyck was the TAB favourite before final acceptances at 3pm AEDT but is now the $5 second elect due to the likelihood of starting from the outside barrier of 18 unless first emergency Raheen House gains a start.
Promising stayer Master Of Wine is rated a $9 chance to win Saturday’s Caulfield Cup ahead of Finche ($11), Buckhurst ($13) and TAB Turnbull Stakes runner-up Toffee Tongue ($15).
